Sri. A. Sowrirajan - Our Founder

The great things are always being done by great sacrifices.” – Swami Vivekanda

The words of Swami Vivekanda witness the work of our honourable founder, Late Sri A. Sowrirajan. It is quite clear that millions of people born and die and do nothing for the society, but few people have realized the real meaning of life and time. In order to broaden our mind, we should know the lives of great people who have sacrificed their life for the sake of society. Our honourable founder, Late, Sri. A. Sowrirajan cared our society and lived for them.

In 1865, this school was run by Sri. Suyambulinga Desikar. At the same time our founder’s father, Sri Aadhi Narayana Pillai had another school for upper primary, from 1 to 5th standard classes with Government Recognition. In 1908, these two schools were united as a single school and Sri Natesan Iyer and Sri Aadhi Narayana Pillai jointly took care of the school.

In 1920, this school was functioning only under a thatched roof. After the death of Sri Aadhi Narayana Pillai, Mrs. Aadhi Narayana Pillai gave consent to Sri Natesan Iyer to take care of the school. Though Sri. A. Sowrirajan returned from Mauritius in 1926, under Sri. Natesan Iyer ran the school under the guidance of Sri. A. Sowrirajan. In 1930, Sixth standard was started and with the hard work of the Headmaster, Sri. R. Vaithiyanatha Swamy, Sri. A. Sowrirajan and Sri. Natesan Iyer and took the school to a greater level.

In 1932, the thatched roof was completely damaged by cyclone.   The thatched roof was rebuilt by the efforts of Sri. A. Sowrirajan  Pillai, Sri. Natesan Iyer and the local people. In 1939, Sri. Natesan Iyer transferred the management to Sri. A. Sowrirajan Pillai. In 1950, the school management was transferred to Eachngudi Land Lord, Sri. Subarayalu Naidu. In 1951, the management was transferred back to Sri. A. Sowrirajan Pillai.

In 1952, again the school was damaged by cyclone, and a temporary roof was built. Later the new building was built by Sri. A. Sowrirajan Pillai. In 1962, Sri. Sowrirajan Pillai gave all these properties of Rs. 50,000 to start this school. Since then, the schools functioning are  Sowrirajan Primary School (standards 1 to 5 ) and Sowrirajan High school (Standards 6 to 10). Sri. Rathinasamy was Headmaster.

After the demise of Sri. A. Sowrirajan Pillai,  both schools were efficiently managed by his daughter, Dr. D. Padmasani M.B.B.S. After the demise of Dr. D. Padmasani in 1997, Sri. Sowrirajan Kumar, son of Sri. A. Sowrirajan Pillai has taken over the school correspondent till date. Our Present Correspondent is very generous and interested in the welfare of children. Putting the need of the school first, with his own effort he has built a building (20 classrooms) for Rs. 60,00,000. The building is equipped with Science Lab. In order to develop the computer knowledge of students, a computer lab was opened in the year 2010 in the name of Dr. D. Padmasani with 30 computers.

Presently, Dr. S. Veerapandiyan is the secretary, Sri.  N. Ramesh is the present Headmaster of Sowrirajan High School and Smt. L. Valarmathi is the present Headmistress of Sowrirajan Aided Elementary School.
